Ronnie Morris, 38, of Monticello, was indicted for aggravated cruelty to animals by a Sullivan County grand jury on Friday, March 7.
An investigation found that Morris abandoned his 2-year-old pit bull, Nala, in a vacant house without electricity while locked in a crate, according to the Sullivan County DA’s office.
Nala was left there for several days, and eventually froze/starved to death.
Following his arraignment in Sullivan County Supreme Court, Morris was released on his own recognizance. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison.
